Checking the First Three Months in the School Calendar and Lessons I Got from Hot Tips for Teachers (The Last Game Vlog No. 3)

Good day everyone, this is Sir Elbert.

Today is August 16, and the third day of our Brigada Eskwela. As I said last time, one of the things that I usually do within this period of time is to read some of the DepEd orders, especially the DepEd order which contains the implementing guidelines on the school calendar and activities for the coming school year.

This is the DepEd order, and somehow I have already read it. After reading the guidelines, actually the most frequent part that I check is the enclosure number 2. So the DepEd order has enclosures. This enclosure number 2 has the monthly school calendar of activities for the school year. What I do as a simple classroom adviser, I check the first three months. I check carefully if ever there are some activities that I am involved as a Science Teacher, as a Classroom Adviser and sometimes as an adviser of an organization. Now, I check, August, September and October. So, August, this is now, start of the enrollment is already ongoing, of course Brigada Eskwela is also happening. September, next month, I saw the National Achievement Test for Grade 6 and Grade 10, which I am involved since I am an adviser of Grade 6. So, I need to prepare for this achievement test. When in September? It is stated here TBA, that means To Be Announced. Last school calendar, the NAT was scheduled last April 2023 and it was also stated there TBA. It did not push through, maybe because there are so many activities. Maybe this time, it will push through as scheduled in the month of September. I might as well take a note so I can prepare the National Achievement Test of my students. So that they are ready.

Aside from that, aside from reading some DepEd orders, this is what I was saying, I re-read classroom management ideas book. This book, Hot Tips for Teachers, a collection of classroom management ideas written by Ann Salisbury Harrison and Frances Burton Spuler. Thank you so much to these two authors. I have been using this book since 2009. What are inside this book? Actually, there are a lot a teacher can learn from this book, like paper flow, chair arrangements. But, what I always think when I am holding this book, re-reading this book, what always enters my mind is the most important thing in classroom management. What is the priority when in comes to classroom management? What retains in my mind, the first priority is the safety of the students. So I should do everything in my capacity to ensure that the classroom that I will set up for the kids is safe. That's actually the number tip 1 I got from this book, among other things. I guess, bit by bit, even if classes have already started, I will share with you some of the tips here, like how to manage groupings, how to evaluate students, discipline, dress code, confidentiality, communications both written and oral, and so on and so forth. Last thing, before I forget, it is important to always have a notebook and pen handy, so we can always recall the important things that we already know, but might forget because we did not write them down.

Okay, so that's it for now. Again, don't forget to follow me here in Facebook and probably as I said,.one of these days, I will reveal my TikTok account, YouTube channels, and my blog site. So I hope this vlog will help some of the new teachers, some of the future teachers who will teach our kids. Once again, this is Sir Elbert and this is The Last Game Vlog No. 3. Bye, see you next time.

Hello guys, this is Sir Elbert. Welcome to The Last Game, this is vlog number 6. Today, let's talk about first day of school.           What to do on the first day of school as teachers. As for me, I do four things. Number 1 is to prepare or have all the materials ready. Ready the attendance sheet, class program, teacher's program, teaching materials, the students information sheet or students profile and so on and so forth. Okay, that number 1.              Number 2: stand at the door when the students arrive. Just be firm, controlled and consistent.
